How it works
Impulse is an ever-evolving urban instrument that responds to your interaction.
Composed of a series of interactive seesaws of varying lengths (5 or 7 meters) which can hold between 2 and 4 people, Impulse is a kinetic, light, and sound artwork.
Each seesaw carries a unique set of sounds, which are triggered by its movement and vary with its speed and rhythm.
When multiple seesaws are set in motion simultaneously, their sounds are layered, creating a dynamic acoustic field.
The movement of each seesaw also increases and directs its light intensity. When stationary, the scales remain at a lower lighting level.
The collective movement of the seesaws generates a dynamic wave of light and sound.

Composer for a day
Use Impulse as a musical instrument and try your hand at being a composer!
To record your composition and capture the memory, ask a friend to film you!
Share your experience on social media using the hashtag #QDSinternational.
Step 1
Hop on the seesaw of your choice with one to three partners (depending on the capacity of the seesaw), and set it in motion.
Step 2
Vary the speed and rhythm of your movement. Do you notice a difference in the tones produced? Which sounds and rhythms do you like best?
Step 3
Invite other friends or strangers to take place on different seesaws and start moving them as well.
Step 4
Have fun creating a musical piece together by layering the sounds from all the seesaws—under your direction as the composer, of course!
