How it works
How it works
Iceberg is an architectural, light, sound, and interactive installation that embodies this polar giant with 14 metal arches.
The arches respond to your presence and behavior by modulating light and sound to bring the Iceberg to life. Alone or in groups, moving or still, you warm the ice monument, activate its instrument, and transform its original boreal essence into a poignant visual and sound symphony that confronts us with the impact of human activity on the health of our polar ecosystems.
The light evolves from blue to red, and the music transitions from cold, organic sounds to warmer, more musical tones.

The life on an iceberg
The creators describe Iceberg’s soundscape as evolving from nature sounds to more musical tones when paired with human presence:
“From its ‘natural’ state where the sound and light evoke boreal purity, the Iceberg transforms and warms in the presence of visitors. A music builds, and the light turns scarlet. Human activity metamorphoses the original nature of this ice monument into a visual and sonic symphony.”
Go interact with the Iceberg monument. Step inside and walk through the tunnel at your own pace, stopping whenever you like.
Step 1
Observe how the sound animation evolves. Can you hear any familiar natural phenomena?
Step 2
Try to connect the different sounds and musical tones to the natural phenomena they evoke for you.
The connection can be subtle, subjective, poetic, or aesthetic...this is a personal exercise!
