ART & SOCIETY

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT…

What makes a city "creative"?

The Canadian cities of Montreal, London, Quebec City and Toronto are members of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. They each excel in one of the following artistic fields: design (Montreal), music (London), literature (Quebec) and digital arts (Toronto).

As a collaboration project between these different cities, the Celestia installation integrates each of these artistic disciplines.

CAN YOU IDENTIFY FOR WHICH ELEMENTS OF CELESTIA EACH ARTISTIC FIELD WAS USED?

ART & MYTHOLOGY

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT…

The universality of myths?

By comparing the myth of the Pleiades from Greek mythology (summarized in activity 1), and that of the Wendat Nation (accessible by listening to the blue module or briefly summarized in the solution of activity 2), identify their similar elements, then their differences.

WHAT MAKES A MYTH A UNIVERSAL NARRATIVE?

Why do you think myths like the Pleiades manage to persist through time and spread geographically and culturally across diverse communities?

THink of two different cultures you are a part of, or that you know of…

Can you identify values that are repeated across these two communities or cultures? Stories? Important people?

We encourage you to discuss and compare your answers with a friend or companion who belongs to a different community or culture than your own.
