Celestia is a beautiful

mix of Art & Society, History, Literature, Mythology

Have You Ever Thought About?: The universality of myths

By comparing the myth of the Pleiades from Greek mythology (summarized in activity 1), and that of the Wendat Nation (accessible by listening to the blue module or briefly summarized in the solution of activity 2), identify their similar or identical elements, then their differences.

Why do you think myths like the Pleiades manage to persist through time and spread geographically and culturally across diverse communities? What makes a myth a universal narrative?

Think of two different cultures or communities that you are a part of, or that you know. Can you identify values that are repeated across these two communities or cultures? Stories? Important people?

We encourage to discuss and compare your answers with a friend or companion who belongs to a different community or culture than your own.

have you ever
thought about?:

Can you identify for which elements of Celestia each artistic field was used?

Thinking about your hometown or a city of your choice, what do you think is its main artistic strength? Do you know of any notable artists or artistic projects associated with this city?

Go look if the city you have chosen is already registered among the network of 350 UNESCO Creative Cities! If so, take into account its current designation and imagine a creative project that highlights its artistic strength.

What makes a city "creative"?

The cities of Montreal, London, Quebec City and Toronto, members of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, each excel in one of the following artistic fields: design (Montreal), music (London), literature (Quebec) and digital arts (Toronto). The installation Celestia integrates each of these artistic disciplines.
